From the Top…
Hello and welcome to my new blog about social entrepreneurship. I thought I would take the time to give a little intro about why I started this in the first place and where I hope to take this blog in the future. So, moving along…
I began this blog for a number of reasons, but the primary purpose is to give people a little insight into a new era of “Creative Capitalism” as described by Bill Gates. It will also be a portion of my own thoughts and musing about whatever comes to mind. But I digress. Anyway, I’ve been kicking around this idea of a blog or company for some time and I’ve finally decided to get my feet wet. We’ll see how it goes.
I have been thinking about combing the elements of for-profit companies and their business models with the social responsibility of non-profit organizations. I could not think of how to explain it nor what I would call it. I stumbled across Bill Gates’ speech about “creative capitalism” a year or so back. I was immediately floored. he had explained it perfectly. I then stumbled across a book of the same name. And I was floored again. It’s a collection of essays and responses from some of the great thinkers of our time on the subject of how successful this model could be or how it could be a complete failure. I highly recommend it if you are interested in this like I am. Back on topic…
So what I intend to do is highlight some of the successful companies who’s models revolve around the idea of “creative capitalism.” And show others that it can be done successfully and easily. I mean think about it for a second, this business model encompasses what so many people seem to be looking for. They want a job that pays well and leaves them feeling good at the end of the day. I know other people are interested in these things so please, feel free to send in some suggestions or comment on the posts or whatever else you feel like mentioning. I’ll do my best to respond to everyone. I plan to keep this blog updated pretty regularly so please, check back often. I look forward to meeting and talking with you all very soon. Later.
